Difficulty : moderate Distance : long circuit 14 Km, short circuit 6Km (see map) Time : approx 3h10 for long circuit
Summarized itinerary : (long circuit) Točník-pod hradem – Hrad Točník – Hředle – V polesi – cycle path 0055 – Udolí Ticha
Detailed itinerary : From pod Hradem, follow the red/yellow trail markers all the way up to the castle. Hrad Točník, built at the turn of the 15th century, by Charles IV, served as a private residence. It is open to the public should you wish to visit its interior and full information as regards its history can be accessed here https://www.hrad-tocnik.cz/en/about/history Standing in front of the castle gates, a magnificent view of the surrounding fields and the nearby tower of Žebrák castle awaits.
Round the back of the castle, we happened upon a rather surprising inhabitant…
After looking round the castle, continue to Hředle, following the yellow trail markers. This pretty, narrow trail leads you along the top ridge of the forest and down into the village where your dog can drink at the stream. A steep, wide path leads into the fields and forest again a d where red and yellow trails separate, you must start following the red trail markers. You will pass a magnificent picnic spot
The following stretch is on a wide, stony forest path and it is of no particular interest, merely adding kilometers to your hike to satisfy energetic breeds. You must turn left onto the cycling path 0055 before reaching V polesi Jestřab, (consult map) and this is also a fairly monotonous stretch. We therefore covered both stages at a brisk pace. You will arrive at Udolí Ticha and go left along a path lined with holiday homes (following yellow trail markers). This yellow trail is diverse and pretty and will lead you all the way back to Točník, via the neighbouring castle, Žebrák.

N.B. The huge field located just below Točník castle, on the slope to the left of the car park, serves as the venue for a two day music festival every year in July. Hundreds camp overnight, listening to non-stop music of all genres. You can check out next year’s event at https://festivaly.eu/en/ceske-hradycz-2019-tocnik
